EFT Coach: Lynn Hoyland
Although I have been in the mental health field for 38 years and am a licensed Marriage and Family therapist here in Phoenix AZ since 1993, my EFT coaching practice is separate from and not a part of my psychotherapy practice. I will not advise, diagnose, treat, or manage your mental health disorders. If at any time in our work together I feel you would benefit from working with a licensed psychotherapist, I will work with you to find someone who can assist you in that area.
My Background:
My story
I am originally from Decatur, Illinois but have lived in Phoenix for 31 years (which is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful places in the world!). In 1980, I received my undergraduate degree in psychology from Ball State University and in 1987 I completed a Master’s Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy. Since that time, I have worked in many different settings and have been in Private Practice for 22 years. When i discovered EFT coaching, I was immediately hooked!
Turning Point
Graduate school was a turning point for me. Although I excelled in school, I was struggling with an addiction to alcohol. On the outside I looked “great”, but on the “inside” I was suffering terribly. It was during that time, that my life truly began to change. In 1989, I entered a 12-step recovery program and began my journey toward personal fulfillment and self-growth. I have 33 years of continuous sobriety and live a grateful, sober, and incredibly blessed life as a result!
If you are struggling with an addiction or are in a relationship with an addict or alcoholic, I personally know what that journey looks like. Although our stories might be different, the emotional struggle is the same. I also know what recovery looks like and it is amazing. Having joy and gratitude every day. Waking up sober, being free from that deep shame that ALWAYS comes with it. In fact, a few studies have shown that EFT can be very effective with cravings and addictions, even if that is to a person or a relationship.
My Passions
My love of animals is deep and profound…as is my grief when I’ve lost them. I have had a horse almost all of my life and make that a part of my day, every day. In 2022, my two kitties Mikey Jones and Christopher both went to Rainbow Bridge. They were both 18 1/2 and had been with me for 17 1/2 years. It was heartbreaking, I miss them every day. Which leaves me with my beautiful Abyssinian, Quinn. It is almost impossible to describe the delight I get from him every day. Oh!, and four ferals who come for dinner every night who I love dearly.
I would like to give a special shout out to my soul kitty Max who I loved more than anything in the world.
And then there is my beautiful Pippin girl, who passed in the Spring of 2021. Pippin was a feral that came to my back door two and a half years ago. I lost her to a very aggressive cancer this year. As excruciating as it was to lose her, I know in my heart I loved her more than anything. I am so grateful that I was able to give her a beautiful life.
Lastly, deep love to all of those beautiful souls that came before them that have blessed my life in unimaginable ways.
Art Work
In 2012, I started to paint. “My charcoals and paintings are African in nature. The African culture is fascinating to me: their tribes, clothing, jewelry, and customs. I was not raised in a diverse environment. I feel as though I have found a way of understanding this culture more by studying and drawing them.
Working with a palette knife and heavy texture is probably my most favorite. The heavy medium and metallic acrylics bring beautiful form, texture and movement to the canvas. As incredibly difficult as they can sometimes be in the process the final result has been worth the struggle. Which, in reality, is really a metaphor for any adversity we might face in our lives….
Therapy Vs. EFT Coaching
I have been a counselor almost all of my life. In the summer of 1979, I worked with teens at a group home in Assumption, Illinois. It was the summer before entering my senior year in college where I was studying Psychology.
As mentioned above I have worked in the field of mental health for 38 years. I have worked in all different levels of care, and private practice for the last 22 years.
Being in the mental health field for so many years has obviously given me a skill set. To be honest, when I discovered EFT coaching, I was blown away. It was the “missing piece” that I had been looking for in working with my clients. The combination of tapping on the points along with focusing on the issue and the results that I’ve seen have been remarkable.
My EFT Coaching Practice
EFT Coaching Vs Psychotherapy
This discovery has led me to develop my EFT coaching practice separate from my psychotherapy practice. While I bring year of experience to my EFT coaching practice, I will be working with you only as an EFT coach which is very different from psychotherapy.
Psychotherapy is licensed heath care service and coaching is a non-licensed, unregulated service. The purpose of psychotherapy is to alleviate psychological disorders and coaching is not appropriate for clients with psychological disorders. Coaching is a profession relationship in which the coach partners with the client to help the client meet specific, tangible goals.
Although there is no guarantee that EFT coaching works for everyone, in my opinion it is well worth the risk. The growing number of research studies suggest that EFT is as effective as many of the more traditional psychotherapy models, and from what I’ve seen so far…I believe it to be true.
I offer a free 20-minute consultation in order to answer any questions you might have and to determine if EFT tapping is something you would be interested in and to mutually decide if my coaching services are a good fit for you. You can schedule that here by clicking the yellow button below.
